I am so glad that you have time with the birds. There is so much to learn from them. As I live here in the city, we really only see the sparrows, and I am grateful for that, but I so miss the variety that we find at our Motherhouse in the country. Listening to this right now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBD8Cz6IJRg Sorry that your week was so hard. That's a lot to carry.
Whenever I spend time birdwatching, I find myself in quiet contemplation of the beauty for the earth, as the hymn goes. The natural world encourages reflection and a desire to work towards a world where all of creation can thrive. It fills me with hope.
This is lovely, thank you. I really appreciate how accessible bird diversity is and how many ways there are to engage with them, without them the world would be sorely lacking.
This is absolutely wonderful and I know exactly about that "bird connection." The birds in our yard send me messages every day - sometimes when I am going out, or coming home. I know that sounds weird and a bit silly, but I honestly believe that if you are aware, you will see and hear them. You just have to tune in. I did not know Emily D wrote so many poems with birds in them - I will have to read more. I am going to share this article with all my "bird friends" - including at BirdsCaribbean, where I work on the Media Working Group and do some writing for them. THANK YOU for this!

I love that the birds in your yard sends you messages. Isn't it amazing how wonder-filled the world truly is when we give it our attention?
Yes! We just have to quiet down, listen and observe... Many people are too busy running around to do that. Paying attention is key!
Thank you.
"To consider the birds is to strive against a culture that prefers us to be constantly consuming." So true.
